New Insight recently participated in ExpoCAMACOL 2026 in Medellín, Colombia. As one of Colombia’s important construction and building materials exhibitions, the event gave us an excellent opportunity not only to showcase our outdoor WPC products, but also to meet local building material companies, industry professionals and potential partners.
Through our conversations at the exhibition and our observations during our trip in Colombia, we gained a more direct understanding of the local outdoor materials market and saw significant potential for the future development of WPC in Colombia.
Compared with some more mature WPC markets, WPC is still not widely used in Colombia today.
At the same time, our experience in Colombia showed us that the country has a wide variety of outdoor spaces and many potential applications for durable, attractive and low-maintenance outdoor materials.
For example, lakeside docks and waterfront platforms can be potential applications for WPC decking. During our trip, we saw outdoor platforms and dock structures along a lakeside leisure area. These environments are continuously exposed to moisture, sunlight and outdoor weather conditions, making WPC a material worth considering for future projects.
Poolside areas are another natural application for WPC decking. We also saw several swimming pool areas with outdoor spaces that could potentially benefit from WPC decking, providing an attractive and low-maintenance surface around pools.
Beyond these applications, WPC can also be used for:
Residential terraces and balconies
Outdoor cafés and restaurants
Commercial streets
Villa gardens and patios
Hotels and leisure facilities
Waterfront and recreational projects
These applications represent potential opportunities for the development of WPC in Colombia.
During our trip in Colombia, we also noticed that some outdoor restaurants and leisure spaces are still using traditional wood decking.
One outdoor restaurant we photographed was using traditional wooden decking that showed visible signs of aging and wear. The original paint had also begun to peel after prolonged outdoor exposure.
Traditional wood offers a natural appearance and texture, but outdoor wooden structures generally require regular maintenance, including cleaning, repainting and protective treatment.
This is one area where WPC can provide an alternative solution.
Depending on the specific product formulation and application environment, WPC can offer good water and moisture resistance, UV resistance, and resistance to insects and termites. It also generally requires less routine maintenance and does not need regular painting like traditional wood.
For outdoor restaurants, hotels, swimming pools and residential projects in Colombia, WPC could therefore be considered not only for new construction, but also as a potential option for upgrading or replacing traditional outdoor wood applications in the future.
Interestingly, WPC Fence received even more attention than we expected at ExpoCAMACOL 2026.
During conversations with local visitors, some told us that they had already seen WPC decking in Colombia. This suggests that although WPC decking is not yet widely used, the local market has already begun to encounter and recognize the material.
In contrast, the WPC Fence samples we brought to the exhibition were new to many visitors. Several people told us that they had not seen similar WPC fencing products in the local market before.
this made us realize that WPC Fence could be an especially interesting product category to develop in Colombia.
For villas, residential properties and garden projects, WPC Fence can serve not only as a boundary product, but also as a way to create a more private, comfortable and visually appealing outdoor living environment.
In villa gardens and residential patios, fencing can help define private outdoor spaces while improving privacy and overall aesthetics. The natural wood-like appearance of WPC can also blend well with plants, gardens, terraces and other outdoor elements.
For Colombian homeowners looking to create a more comfortable and private garden or patio, WPC fencing could offer considerable potential.
At the same time, compared with traditional wooden fencing, WPC Fence can offer lower maintenance requirements. Depending on the specific product formulation and application, it can provide water and moisture resistance, UV resistance, and resistance to insects and termites, while generally eliminating the need for regular painting.
We therefore see strong potential for WPC Decking and WPC Fence to complement each other in the Colombian market. Decking can be used for terraces, swimming pools and outdoor leisure spaces, while fencing can be used to define gardens, patios and private outdoor areas.
Another important part of our ExpoCAMACOL experience was the opportunity to have valuable conversations with several Colombian companies from different areas of the building materials industry.
We also had an enjoyable discussion with a well-established Colombian company in the timber industry about traditional wood, WPC and the potential development of outdoor material applications in Colombia.
We also met with a Colombian company specializing in interior decoration, where we explored the possibility of expanding its existing product offering into outdoor WPC materials in the future.
In addition, we connected with a local building materials retailer, which gave us valuable insights into the Colombian distribution market and potential product opportunities.
These conversations are still at an early stage, but we were very pleased to establish these connections at ExpoCAMACOL and look forward to exploring potential cooperation in the future.
Our experience at ExpoCAMACOL 2026 reinforced our view that:
The WPC market in Colombia is still at an early stage, but it has significant potential for future development.
We do not believe WPC necessarily needs to completely replace traditional materials. Instead, it can complement the existing outdoor building materials market and provide architects, builders, distributors and homeowners with another option for outdoor projects.
From lakeside docks and swimming pool areas to outdoor cafés, restaurants, residential terraces and villa gardens, Colombia has many outdoor environments where WPC could potentially be applied.
The feedback we received at the exhibition was particularly encouraging for WPC Fence. While some local customers were already familiar with WPC decking, WPC fencing was still relatively new to many of them. This suggests that fencing could become an important direction for future WPC development in the Colombian market.
As local architects, builders, distributors and consumers become more familiar with WPC, we believe its applications will gradually expand.
For New Insight, ExpoCAMACOL 2026 was more than an opportunity to present our WPC Decking, Fencing, Wall Cladding and Railing solutions. It was also an important opportunity to understand the local market, observe real-world applications and build relationships with potential partners.
We look forward to continuing our conversations with Colombian companies and partners and exploring new possibilities for WPC in Colombia.
